Wavion Wins Biennial 'Best Start-Up' Award at Telecom 2006

Wavion Shares $10,000 Prize for Its State-of-the-Art Technology and Business Potential

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 13, 2006 - Wavion™, a company transforming the metro Wi-Fi market with a new category of access point (AP), was awarded “Best Start-up” at Telecom 2006, Israel’s premiere event to showcase the country’s telecommunications talents.

Presented by Dr. Eli Opper, Chief Scientist of Israel’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, the $10,000 biennial award recognizes wireless broadband innovations and business potential.
“We’re honored to be chosen for such a prestigious award,” said Wavion’s founder and CTO Dr. Mati Wax. “We are bringing a novel and powerful digital beamforming technology to the Metro Wi-Fi market, and are grateful to be recognized as a potential leader in this industry.”

Compared to other metro-scale APs, the Wavion WS410 can triple wireless coverage and
capacity while minimizing dead spots at half the cost over a given area. The WS410 is based on six radio transceivers and six antennas, and it employs advanced digital beamforming technology. Wavion is the only manufacturer to use custom-designed ASICs optimized for outdoor environments. The technology significantly improves the link gain and connection quality to off-the-shelf, 802.11 standards-based Wi-Fi clients - such as those found in most recently manufactured notebook computers, mobile phones and PDAs.

“Wavion’s efforts highlight the state of innovation in Israel,” said Dr. Eli Opper. “As municipalities around the globe strive to improve public services, public safety and close the digital divide with Metro Wi-Fi networks, we look with pride to Wavion’s innovative achievements in this field.”
