Outdoor Wi-Fi is most challenging when interference levels are high. Proper radio planning is important for mitigating interference but this alone is not enough. Wavion base stations provide a comprehensive solution for mitigating interferences including Beamforming’s inherent interference suppression, ACS, DIH and sector base station with mechanical down tilting. With this newsletter edition, Wavion is happy to announce additional improvement for mitigating interference – omni base stations with down-tilted antennas.

Africa Com 2010 was a successful Pan-Africa industry event. Participating in this event provided a fruitful ground for Wavion team to meet partners and customers from all over the continent, share views, new developments, and discuss projects. The significant number of visitors and the great interest in our products and solutions was overwhelming. Special interest was noted in our end-to-end Wi-Fi coverage in university campuses and in our 3G offloading solution.

The increase in smart phone usage and the subsequent explosion of data traffic on cellular networks has caused an immediate need for carriers to offload the data traffic from the network, so that both voice and data services perform optimally. Due to the built-in Wi-Fi capabilities of the smart phones and other devices on the market, Wi-Fi is emerging as a natural technology solution for operators struggling to provide the surge in mobile internet data. Operators are rapidly increasing the use of Wi-Fi as a key data-offloading strategy. Wavion’s solution allows operators to use the same customer and service management systems for both 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

Affordable Wi-Fi Coverage in a Challenging Environment

Misty Hills Country Hotel, Johannesburg, was looking for a Wi-Fi solution to provide internet access in all rooms and public facilities in the complex, with minimal cabling and disruption to open and closed areas. The requirements presented an exceptionally difficult set of challenges such as severe Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS), deep indoor penetration and extended range in a jungle environment with tall trees. With the unique advantages of the Wavion’s Beamforming technology, all rooms and common public areas were covered.
